Last 4th April, the 20th Conference about Sustainability of Water and Soil Resources in Agriculture took place in Cordoba.
This event, organized by the Research Data Transfer Office of the Cordoba University (OTRI UCO), is designed to bring the scientific community and the business sector closer. This edition aimed to present the latest advances in water management in agriculture, due to need of finding new manners of water reuse in the long periods of drought.
The conference opening was in charge of Enrique Quesada, Vice Chancellor for Research and Territorial Development, and Araceli Cabello, Delegate for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development. Both valued very positive these initiatives of research from the Cordoba University and they also highlighted the relevance that the applications of renewable energies, the reuse of industrial water in agriculture and the reuse of urban regenerated water have at the present.
After that, three round tables took place in the conference. The first of them was focused on new technologies for water and energy management in irrigation, followed by the second one where it talked about water reuse in the industry.
The third round table about the use of urban reclaimed water in agriculture was moderated by Julio Berbel, Professor of Hydraulic Engineering of the University of Cordoba and who is also partner of SUWANU EUROPE project. During this last session, Antonia Lorenzo, CEO of BIOAZUL and also partner of SUWANU EUROPE, presented various projects related to circular economy and reclaimed water that are currently carried out such as Water2Return, RichWater and the most recent SUWANU EUROPE. She explained what the reason is behind this project and the expected objectives to reach. She also emphasized the importance of using reclaimed water to tackle the drought periods.
