A seminar was held in Sofia (Bulgaria) on September 10 to discuss the problems and challenges of water reuse and sludge management from wastewater treatment plants. The meeting is part of the consultations with the stakeholders in implementation of the contract № D-34-44 / 26.05.2020 for public procurement with subject “Preparation of plans and strategic documents in the field of waste management”, position №2 “Development of a strategy and action plan for transition to a circular economy of the Republic of Bulgaria, for the period 2021-2027 ”, with assignor Ministry of Environment and Waters. The following topics were discussed during the meeting:
- Main conclusions from the analysis of the current situation.
- Main challenges and objectives for the WWTP sludge management and water reuse sector.
- Vision, goals and priorities of the Strategy for Transition to a Circular Water Economy.
Assoc. Prof. Stefan Shilev from the Agricultural University of Plovdiv took part in the meeting as a representative of the SUWANU EUROPE project. He presented the project, emphasizing the main points of the state of the art analysis for Bulgaria, SWOT and PEST analyzes, as well as some basic points of the Regional action plant to overcome the barriers in the area of water reuse in agriculture. The most important points of the EU Regulation 2020/741 and the need to achieve the objectives of the RAP to promote water reuse, including before 23 of June 2023, when the Regulation will enter into force and will be applied, were also touched upon.
