CONSULAI and FENAREG disseminated the SUWANU EUROPE project at the 8th National Congress on Irrigation and Drainage. Considering the current constraints of Covid-19, the event was held online and had more than 400 participants, between 25 and 27 November 2020.
The objectives and main actions of SUWANU EUROPE were presented, as well as the next steps, namely, the 3rd Regional Working Group, in Portugal, to be held on December 18th.
The calendar of workshops, courses and online training sessions, to be held in January 2021, alluding to practical knowledge about water reuse in agriculture, were also released.
The Congress counted on the participation of guests of excellence to discuss topics such as: the integrated management of water resources, the new Common Agricultural Policy, Innovation in irrigation, Regional Water Efficiency Plans of the Alentejo and the Algarve, as well as the problems of origin of water in this latter region.
At the same time, innovative articles and projects for the future of Irrigation and Drainage were presented. In particular, on the use of water in agriculture, Drainage, Environment, Energy, Circular economy, Precision agriculture, quality and new sources of water and reuse in agriculture.
The event was intended to discuss problems related to irrigation and drainage, making it possible, in the medium and long term, to improve the use and management of irrigation water. As well as increasing productivity and availability of water for irrigation and reducing the associated environmental impact. These debate forums have been increasingly contributing to promote the transfer of technology resulting from research and everyday experience, among professionals in the field.
