The first day of the SUWANU EUROPE International Conference finalized with the lessons learnt from Cyprus and Israel through the experience of Popi Karaolia and Diego Berger.
Popi Karaolia is a post-doctoral researcher at Nireas-International Water Research Center of the University of Cyprus. Her research expertise lies in the development and application of methods and protocols for the detection and enumeration of cultivable bacteria and of various types of genes. More recently, she is leading the setup of a monitoring system of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater in Cyprus and is involved in several collaborative water-related international research projects.
Diego Berger international special coordinator at Mekorot, the Israel National Water Company. He has a degree in Civil Engineering and Master of Science Degree and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and Water Resources' Management. During his long experience in Mekorot he has been focused on Water resources management, modeling and optimization of water supply systems among others. And in recent years, Diego was actively involved in consulting work on behalf of Mekorot abroad, on hydrology and water resources management issues.
