DESCRIPTION:Water reuse in Asprovalta\, Municipality of Volvi\, Thessaloniki\n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n			 \nWaste water source\nThe municipal wastewater treatment plant of Asprovalta receives and treats urban wastewater from Asprovalta city. \n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n			 \nDistribution System\nThe treated effluent goes either directly to the river\, or to the nearby land area by surface irrigation. \n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n			 \nFarming system\nReclaimed water is used to irrigate natural vegetation areas\, with bushes\, native trees and olive trees. The irrigated agricultural land is located next to the treatment unit. \n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n			 \nWaste water treatment description\nNutrient removal : Nitrification\, denitrification and biological phosphorus removal.\nPesticide removal : none\nDisinfection : Chlorination\nSuspended solids removal : Aeration and secondary treatment with sedimentation\nOther : \n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n			 \nCapacity\nThe plant was designed initially for a population equivalent of 10\,860 with a maximum treatment capacity is 40\,000 population equivalent. The population in summer increases of 100%.\nThe plant has following characteristics:\nTotal incoming load  (Kg BOD5/d): mean annual: 2\,800 max annual: 3\,200\nIncoming sewage load (Kg BOD5 /d): mean annual: 2\,000 max annual: 2\,400\nInlet load sewage sludge (Kg BOD5/d): mean annual: 800\,  max annual: 800\nTotal incoming flow to treatment plant (m3/d): mean annual: 50\, max annual: 600 \n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n			 \nExtent of the agricultural beneficiaries\nThe extent of the agricultural land which benefits from the reclaimed water is 120 hectares. \n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n			 \nCosts\nThe cost of reclaimed water is estimated at 0.6 euro /m3. \n\n		\n	\n\n	\n		\n			 \nType of agreement\nThe Wastewater Treatment Plant of Asprovalta is owned and operated by the Water and Sewer Municipal Company of Volvi.
