SUMMARY:Closing the water cycle in horticulture
DESCRIPTION:Closing the water cycle in horticulture\n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n AquaReUse\n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nWaste water source\nThe wastewater is a mix of 90 % horticultural wastewater and 10 % municipal wastewater. In periods with high demand and low water input\, water from the nearby canal is treated. \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nDistribution System\nThere is a storage tank for water that recieved the primary treatment. After the secondary treatment\, the reclaimed water is pumped into a closed basin after a disinfection process. If the reclaimed water isn't used immediately\, it is pumped in an aquifer storage system. From the aquifer storage system\, the water can be pumped up in times of shortage. The water that is pumped up is disinfected first by a UV unit. \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nFarming system\nThe reclaimed water is used in the horticultural companies in the area that grow mostly vegetables and ornamentals. They mostly cultivation with hydroponic systems. \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nWaste water treatment description\nNutrient removal : Constructed aerated reed bed filter (529 m²) and reverse osmosis\nPesticide removal : Constructed aerated reed bed filter\nDisinfection : Constructed aerated reed bed filter\, reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration\nSuspended solids removal : Sand trap\, degreaser\, multimediafilter and ultrafiltration\nOther : The clean water is collected in a basin that is fully closed\, to prevent contamination. \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nCapacity\nThe aerated reed bed can treat up to 22 m³/h. Contemplating temperature differences in winter and summer it is estimated that the yearly treated volume is around 100\,000 m³. This high capacity is due to the relatively low contamination of the influent wastewater. \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nExtent of the agricultural beneficiaries\nThe horticultural companies in the region. The exact numerical data is unknown. \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nCosts\n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nType of agreement\n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \nScientific results
